Jesus Christ is the only man who has ever lived a perfect life. Although He lived on the earth as God made flesh in the form of a human being, He experienced all of the same trials and temptations that we do. Anybody who has experienced people trying to hold them back or cut them down when they've tried to put their life on a pathway towards truth and righteousness will understand how much opposition Jesus Christ encountered. Unlike us, He never did anything wrong and He was never wrong about anything. So it's pretty easy to see that the amount of opposition that He encountered was absolutely colossal. The people who encounter the most resistance today are those people who put their trust in Jesus Christ for their salvation and seek to follow His example and teachings. It has been an incredible eye-opener for me that the times in my life when I have most tried to live in obedience to God have been the times when every man and his dog, including people I had never met before, have sought to cut me down. I believe that the only way to effectively deal with this kind of resistance is to expect it and ignore it.
Today, Jesus Christ has been marginalised to the extent that we don't pay as much attention to Him as He deserves and give Him the honour that He deserves. Jesus Christ of Nazareth died on a cross with nails through His hands and feet in order to take on the punishment that is due to all of us for the sins that we've committed. If we’re honest with ourselves, we know all about the sins that we've committed. I certainly know all about mine. It is absolutely astounding that the only man to have ever lived a perfect life is the same man who submitted humbly to the brutalisation of the cross in order to bear the punishment that we deserve for our sins and die on the cross in our place. He did this for us so that we can be forgiven for our sins and so that we can be reconciled to God our Creator and have a harmonious relationship with Him. All of the good things that we have in our lives and that we enjoy so much come from God, who is the Creator of all good things. A few examples that spring to mind are lush green grass, the warm sun shining down on our faces, a pet cat or dog who adores us and rushes to greet us when we return home, friends and loved ones who understand us and who share in our laughter, joy and sadness, and fresh, nutritious food that we know is so good for our bodies.
There is no doubt that we are confronted with some major challenges in the world today of a criminal nature which require our immediate attention. However, it would be naive of me to believe that solving these challenges will enable us to establish some kind of utopia on earth while ignoring God the Father, God the Son, Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit who appeals to us gently and in love in an effort to turn us towards our Creator who loves us so much. I don’t believe that and I want you to know that the man I most admire is Jesus Christ. He has been incredibly patient and amazingly humble over the past several years since 9/11 as much of the world has ignored Him and as many of those who are seeking to deceive us have viciously maligned Him. In the midst of all of this confusion and contempt, I honour Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the ultimate solution to our problems.
